Here’s why Boston was just named the best city for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations

There’s no better place for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day than Boston, according to WalletHub.

The personal finance website released a list of the best cities for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and Boston ranked No. 1.

“The best cities for St. Patrick’s Day combine rich traditions with tasty and affordable food, safe conditions to celebrate, and good weather,” said Cassandra Happe, WalletHub analyst, in a statement.

Here is what WalletHub wrote, in part, about Boston:

Boston is the best city for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in 2024, offering people plenty of festive activities. Boston is known for its huge St. Patrick’s Day parade, which brings in around a million visitors per year. Boston’s parade tradition is also one of the oldest in the land, dating back to 1724, before we were even an independent country!

In addition, Irish food and drink is prevalent in the city. Boston has the fifth-most Irish pubs and sixth-most Irish restaurants per capita. These bars and restaurants are very affordable for the most part, too.

Thirteen percent of Boston residents have Irish ancestry, making it the seventh most Irish city in the U.S., noted WalletHub.

To comprise the list, WalletHub compared 200 of the largest U.S. cities, analyzing St. Patrick’s Day traditions, cost, safety and accessibility, and St. Patrick’s Day weather.

Boston was also named the best city for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day by the website celtictitles.com, though the site said Boston was beat out by two other cities in enthusiasm over the holiday.
